Ever since James Gunn became co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, he decided to shake things up by ditching most of the established actors except for Margot Robbie in order to create a more unified DCU anchored by newer actors. The highest-profile actor to get the big red boot was Henry Cavill as Superman but now, after much hemming and hawing (including the cancellation of her third solo film), it looks like Gal Gadot is going to be replaced as Wonder Woman. We at Giant Freakin Robot recently conducted a poll on Twitter to see who fans wanted to replace Gadot as the famous Amazonian warrior, and Ana de Armas handily won the poll.
Back when Wonder Woman was first being cast, many didn't know who Gal Gadot was until they discovered she'd be portraying the world's most famous Amazon onscreen (unless, of course, they were big fans of The Fast and the Furious films, of which Gadot starred in two franchise entries).
The same can't be said for Ana de Armas, who has been quietly establishing herself as a popular and reliable actor in some very high-profile genre films. This included starring in Blade Runner 2049 alongside Ryan Gosling as Joi, an ethereal holographic girlfriend quite possibly named after a kind of online video you might search for when you're lonely.
And even as everyone tries to figure out who is going to portray the next James Bond (we really did have our hearts set on Idris Elba), Ana de Armas has starred alongside previous Bond star Daniel Craig on two different occasions. She starred as Marta Cabrera in the popular Rian Johnson film Knives Out, and she later reunited with Craig to star in No Time to Die as Paloma, a CIA intelligence operative.
In other words, she knows how to handle her own in blockbuster movies and is a natural when it comes to action scenes, both of which would be assets if she took the role of Wonder Woman after Gal Gadot hangs up the blue panties.
In fact, one of the few things that might make Ana de Armas a poor replacement for Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is her age. As of this writing, Ana de Armas is only 34 years old, but Gunn seems to be focusing on casting younger actors who can headline these tentpole superhero movies for another decade or more.
Gal Gadot was 31 when she first appeared as Wonder Woman and has now effectively been retired from the role at the tender age of 37. So Ana de Armas being only three years younger than the woman she might replace could be a problem for Gunn and his vision of the DCU.
Regardless of whether Ana de Armas ever replaces Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, we can agree that both women have very impressive film resumes and some awesome projects around the corner. For example, Gadot will be starring as Cleopatra in a movie of the same name as well as playing the Evil Queen in a live-action version of the Disney hit Snow White.
And de Armas will appear alongside Chris Evans in Ghosted and alongside both Keanu Reeves and Norman Reedus in Ballerina. No Lasso of Truth is needed to make us say that each of these actors has a bright future ahead of them, but should either want to tie us up, well…we wouldn't necessarily object.

The organizers of the Academy Awards have been urged to reconsider the prize eligibility of Tom Cruise's box office smash Top Gun: Maverick following reports it was partially funded by Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev.
The movie, which was released last year and features Cruise reprising his role as Navy pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, has been nominated for Oscars in several categories: best picture, original song, editing, adapted screenplay, sound and visual effects. The ceremony will be held this Sunday in Los Angeles.
In an open letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which was shared with the press, the Toronto-based expatriate group Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) charged that billionaire Rybolovlev's money went into the movie via his silent investment in Los Angeles-based New Republic Pictures.

It was reported in January that Rybolovlev provided indirect funding for the film. The claim is notably controversial because Rybolovlev is on a list of Russians who have been sanctioned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in light of the ongoing war.
The UWC stated in the letter that its intention is to eradicate any potential for Russia to have a hand in the content of Hollywood movies.
"The Ukrainian World Congress expresses its serious concerns over Russia's influence on the Hollywood film industry," UWC president Paul Grod wrote in the letter, addressed to the academy's president, Janet Yang.
Grod shared unsubstantiated speculation that Rybolovlev's involvement in the funding of the Top Gun sequel may have resulted in the Kremlin interfering with the script to remove any possible negative references to Russia from the storyline.
"Rybolovlev's funding of Top Gun: Maverick was not publicly disclosed and there is good reason to believe that his involvement may have led to censorship on behalf of the Kremlin," Grod wrote.
"Contrary to the original film, Top Gun: Maverick makes no direct or indirect reference to Russia. This is hardly a coincidence. Hollywood must be vigilant and transparent of Russian money being used to further pro-Kremlin censorship," he said.
While New Republic Pictures has invested in a number of Paramount's cinematic offerings since 2020, it has no creative input in the content of the pictures, according to Deadline. This hands-off funding would also apply to Top Gun: Maverick.
The Los Angeles Times reported earlier this year that former New Republic President Bradley Fisher alleged that Monaco-based Rybolovlev played a major role in the company funding Top Gun: Maverick and the Mission Impossible sequels. The claims were made in a breach of contract lawsuit brought by Fisher.
In the letter, Grod described Rybolovlev "as one of Russia's richest oligarchs," additionally referring to the businessman as "a known close friend and business partner" of the country's deputy prime minister, Yury Trutnev.
Grod also described the oligarch as Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko's biggest business partner in potash exports for more than a decade. This, Grod said, has aided him in sustaining an authoritarian regime through the flow of cash.
Newsweek reached out to representatives of Paramount via email for comment.
Known as the "fertilizer king," Rybolovlev has been based in Monaco since 2010 and is the owner of the local soccer club AS Monaco. As a result, he has been photographed watching games alongside Prince Albert II of Monaco over the years.
Rybolovlev, an art collector who is worth an estimated $6.6 billion, gained notoriety in the U.S. when it was revealed that he had purchased former President Donald Trump's Maison de L'Amitié property in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2008.
The purchase was made during a U.S. housing market crisis in which other Palm Beach County properties fall by an annual rate of 19.2 percent. Trump purchased the property for $53 million in 2005.
Rybolovlev never moved into the house, instead tearing it down in 2016 and selling parts of the property to 515 North County Road Trust for millions of dollars less than he had paid for it.
It was also reported that Rybolovlev's business jet arrived within hours of Trump at American airports in Concord, North Carolina, and Las Vegas during the 2016 presidential election. Rybolovlev was apparently aboard his jet during the North Carolina trip. It was not confirmed who was on his plane for the Las Vegas flight.
While Rybolovlev is among a group of Russian businessmen who have been sanctioned by Zelensky since the start of the Ukraine invasion, he has so far avoided having such restrictions placed on him in the U.S. and Europe.

New York, often called New York City[a] or NYC, is the most populous city in the United States. With a 2020 population of 8,804,190 distributed over 300.46 square miles (778.2 km2), New York City is the most densely populated major city in the United States and more than twice as populous as Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest city. New York City is located at the southern tip of New York State. It constitutes the geographical and demographic center of both the Northeast megalopolis and the New York metropolitan area, the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. by both population and urban area. With over 20.1 million people in its metropolitan statistical area and 23.5 million in its combined statistical area as of 2020, New York is one of the world's most populous megacities, and over 58 million people live within 250 mi (400 km) of the city.[10] New York City is a global cultural, financial, entertainment, and media center with a significant influence on commerce, health care and life sciences,[11] research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy[12][13] and is sometimes described as the capital of the world.[14][15]
Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors and extending into the Atlantic Ocean, New York City comprises five boroughs, each of which is coextensive with a respective county of the state of New York. The five boroughs, which were created in 1898 when local governments were consolidated into a single municipal entity, are: Brooklyn (in Kings County), Queens (in Queens County), Manhattan (in New York County), The Bronx (in Bronx County), and Staten Island (in Richmond County).[16]
As of 2021, the New York metropolitan area is the largest metropolitan economy in the world with a gross metropolitan product of over $2.4 trillion. If the New York metropolitan area were a sovereign state, it would have the eighth-largest economy in the world. New York City is an established safe haven for global investors.[17] As of 2022, New York is home to the highest number of billionaires[18][19] and millionaires[20] of any city in the world.
The city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York,[21] making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. New York City is home to more than 3.2 million residents born outside the U.S., the largest foreign-born population of any city in the world as of 2016.[22]
New York City traces its origins to a trading post founded on the southern tip of Manhattan Island by Dutch colonists in approximately 1624. The settlement was named New Amsterdam (Dutch: Nieuw Amsterdam) in 1626 and was chartered as a city in 1653. The city came under British control in 1664 and was renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York.[23][24] The city was regained by the Dutch in July 1673 and was renamed New Orange for one year and three months; the city has been continuously named New York since November 1674. New York City was the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790,[25] and has been the largest U.S. city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to the U.S. by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is a symbol of the U.S. and its ideals of liberty and peace.[26] In the 21st century, New York City has emerged as a global node of creativity, entrepreneurship,[27] and as a symbol of freedom and cultural diversity.[28] The New York Times has won the most Pulitzer Prizes for journalism and remains the U.S. media's "newspaper of record".[29] In 2019, New York City was voted the greatest city in the world in a survey of over 30,000 people from 48 cities worldwide, citing its cultural diversity.[30]
Many districts and monuments in New York City are major landmarks, including three of the world's ten most visited tourist attractions in 2013.[31] A record 66.6 million tourists visited New York City in 2019. Times Square is the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theater District,[32] one of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections[31] and a major center of the world's entertainment industry.[33] Many of the city's landmarks, skyscrapers, and parks are known around the world, and the city's fast pace led to the phrase New York minute. The Empire State Building is a global standard of reference to describe the height and length of other structures.[34]
Manhattan's real estate market is among the most expensive in the world.[35][36] Providing continuous 24/7 service and contributing to the nickname The City That Never Sleeps, the New York City Subway is the largest single-operator rapid transit system in the world with 472 passenger rail stations, and Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan is the busiest transportation hub in the Western Hemisphere.[37] The city has over 120 colleges and universities, including Columbia University, an Ivy League university routinely ranked among the world's top universities,[38] New York University, and the City University of New York system, the largest urban public university system in the nation. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the world's leading financial center[39] and the most powerful city in the world,[40] and is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.[41][42]
The Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, part of the Stonewall National Monument, is considered the historic epicenter of LGBTQ+ culture[43] and the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement.[44][45] New York City is the headquarters of the global art market, with numerous art galleries and auction houses collectively hosting half of the world’s art auctions, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art is both the largest art museum and the most visited museum in the United States.[46] Governors Island in New York Harbor is planned to host a US$1 billion research and education center addressing the climate crisis.[47]
Etymology
In 1664, New York was named in honor of the Duke of York, who would become King James II of England.[48] James's elder brother, King Charles II, appointed the Duke as proprietor of the former territory of New Netherland, including the city of New Amsterdam, when England seized it from Dutch control.[49]
History
Early history
In the pre-Columbian era, the area of present-day New York City was inhabited by Algonquian Native Americans, including the Lenape. Their homeland, known as Lenapehoking, included the present-day areas of Staten Island, Manhattan, the Bronx, the western portion of Long Island (including the areas that would later become the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens), and the Lower Hudson Valley.[50]
The first documented visit into New York Harbor by a European was in 1524 by Italian Giovanni da Verrazzano, an explorer from Florence in the service of the French crown.[51] He claimed the area for France and named it Nouvelle Angoulême (New Angoulême).[52] A Spanish expedition, led by the Portuguese captain Estêvão Gomes sailing for Emperor Charles V, arrived in New York Harbor in January 1525 and charted the mouth of the Hudson River, which he named Río de San Antonio ('Saint Anthony's River'). The Padrón Real of 1527, the first scientific map to show the East Coast of North America continuously, was informed by Gomes' expedition and labeled the northeastern United States as Tierra de Esteban Gómez in his honor.[53]
In 1609, the English explorer Henry Hudson rediscovered New York Harbor while searching for the Northwest Passage to the Orient for the Dutch East India Company.[54] He proceeded to sail up what the Dutch would name the North River (now the Hudson River), named first by Hudson as the Mauritius after Maurice, Prince of Orange. Hudson's first mate described the harbor as "a very good Harbour for all windes" and the river as "a mile broad" and "full of fish".[55] Hudson sailed roughly 150 miles (240 km) north,[56] past the site of the present-day New York State capital city of Albany, in the belief that it might be an oceanic tributary before the river became too shallow to continue.[55] He made a ten-day exploration of the area and claimed the region for the Dutch East India Company. In 1614, the area between Cape Cod and Delaware Bay was claimed by the Netherlands and called Nieuw-Nederland ('New Netherland').
The first non–Native American inhabitant of what would eventually become New York City was Juan Rodriguez (transliterated to the Dutch language as Jan Rodrigues), a merchant from Santo Domingo. Born in Santo Domingo of Portuguese and African descent, he arrived in Manhattan during the winter of 1613–14, trapping for pelts and trading with the local population as a representative of the Dutch. Broadway, from 159th Street to 218th Street in Upper Manhattan, is named Juan Rodriguez Way in his honor.[57][58]
Dutch rule
A permanent European presence near New York Harbor was established in 1624, making New York the 12th-oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States[59]—with the founding of a Dutch fur trading settlement on Governors Island. In 1625, construction was started on a citadel and Fort Amsterdam, later called Nieuw Amsterdam (New Amsterdam), on present-day Manhattan Island.[60][61] The colony of New Amsterdam was centered on what would ultimately be known as Lower Manhattan. Its area extended from the southern tip of Manhattan to modern day Wall Street, where a 12-foot wooden stockade was built in 1653 to protect against Native American and British raids.[62] In 1626, the Dutch colonial Director-General Peter Minuit, acting as charged by the Dutch West India Company, purchased the island of Manhattan from the Canarsie, a small Lenape band,[63] for "the value of 60 guilders"[64] (about $900 in 2018).[65] A disproved legend claims that Manhattan was purchased for $24 worth of glass beads.[66][67]
Following the purchase, New Amsterdam grew slowly.[24] To attract settlers, the Dutch instituted the patroon system in 1628, whereby wealthy Dutchmen (patroons, or patrons) who brought 50 colonists to New Netherland would be awarded swaths of land, along with local political autonomy and rights to participate in the lucrative fur trade. This program had little success.[68]
Since 1621, the Dutch West India Company had operated as a monopoly in New Netherland, on authority granted by the Dutch States General. In 1639–1640, in an effort to bolster economic growth, the Dutch West India Company relinquished its monopoly over the fur trade, leading to growth in the production and trade of food, timber, tobacco, and slaves (particularly with the Dutch West Indies).[24][69]
In 1647, Peter Stuyvesant began his tenure as the last Director-General of New Netherland. During his tenure, the population of New Netherland grew from 2,000 to 8,000.[70][71] Stuyvesant has been credited with improving law and order in the colony; however, he also earned a reputation as a despotic leader. He instituted regulations on liquor sales, attempted to assert control over the Dutch Reformed Church, and blocked other religious groups (including Quakers, Jews, and Lutherans) from establishing houses of worship.[72] The Dutch West India Company would eventually attempt to ease tensions between Stuyvesant and residents of New Amsterdam.[73]
English rule
In 1664, unable to summon any significant resistance, Stuyvesant surrendered New Amsterdam to English troops, led by Colonel Richard Nicolls, without bloodshed.[72][73] The terms of the surrender permitted Dutch residents to remain in the colony and allowed for religious freedom.[74] In 1667, during negotiations leading to the Treaty of Breda after the Second Anglo-Dutch War, the Dutch decided to keep the nascent plantation colony of what is now Suriname (on the northern South American coast) they had gained from the English; and in return, the English kept New Amsterdam. The fledgling settlement was promptly renamed "New York" after the Duke of York (the future King James II and VII), who would eventually be deposed in the Glorious Revolution.[75] After the founding, the duke gave part of the colony to proprietors George Carteret and John Berkeley. Fort Orange, 150 miles (240 km) north on the Hudson River, was renamed Albany after James's Scottish title.[76] The transfer was confirmed in 1667 by the Treaty of Breda, which concluded the Second Anglo-Dutch War.[77]
On August 24, 1673, during the Third Anglo-Dutch War, Dutch captain Anthony Colve seized the colony of New York from the English at the behest of Cornelis Evertsen the Youngest and rechristened it "New Orange" after William III, the Prince of Orange.[78] The Dutch would soon return the island to England under the Treaty of Westminster of November 1674.[79][80]
Several intertribal wars among the Native Americans and some epidemics brought on by contact with the Europeans caused sizeable population losses for the Lenape between the years 1660 and 1670.[81] By 1700, the Lenape population had diminished to 200.[82] New York experienced several yellow fever epidemics in the 18th century, losing ten percent of its population to the disease in 1702 alone.[83][84]
Province of New York and slavery
In the early 18th century, New York grew in importance as a trading port while as a part of the colony of New York.[85] It also became a center of slavery, with 42% of households enslaving Africans by 1730, the highest percentage outside Charleston, South Carolina.[86] Most cases were that of domestic slavery, as a New York household then commonly enslaved few or several people. Others were hired out to work at labor. Slavery became integrally tied to New York's economy through the labor of slaves throughout the port, and the banking and shipping industries trading with the American South. During construction in Foley Square in the 1990s, the African Burying Ground was discovered; the cemetery included 10,000 to 20,000 of graves of colonial-era Africans, some enslaved and some free.[87]
The 1735 trial and acquittal in Manhattan of John Peter Zenger, who had been accused of seditious libel after criticizing colonial governor William Cosby, helped to establish the freedom of the press in North America.[88] In 1754, Columbia University was founded under charter by King George II as King's College in Lower Manhattan.[89]
American Revolution
The Stamp Act Congress met in New York in October 1765, as the Sons of Liberty organization emerged in the city and skirmished over the next ten years with British troops stationed there.[90] The Battle of Long Island, the largest battle of the American Revolutionary War, was fought in August 1776 within the modern-day borough of Brooklyn.[91] After the battle, in which the Americans were defeated, the British made the city their military and political base of operations in North America. The city was a haven for Loyalist refugees and escaped slaves who joined the British lines for freedom newly promised by the Crown for all fighters. As many as 10,000 escaped slaves crowded into the city during the British occupation. When the British forces evacuated at the close of the war in 1783, they transported 3,000 freedmen for resettlement in Nova Scotia.[92] They resettled other freedmen in England and the Caribbean.
The only attempt at a peaceful solution to the war took place at the Conference House on Staten Island between American delegates, including Benjamin Franklin, and British general Lord Howe on September 11, 1776. Shortly after the British occupation began, the Great Fire of New York occurred, a large conflagration on the West Side of Lower Manhattan, which destroyed about a quarter of the buildings in the city, including Trinity Church.[93]
In 1785, the assembly of the Congress of the Confederation made New York City the national capital shortly after the war. New York was the last capital of the U.S. under the Articles of Confederation and the first capital under the Constitution of the United States. New York City as the U.S. capital hosted several events of national scope in 1789—the first President of the United States, George Washington, was inaugurated; the first United States Congress and the Supreme Court of the United States each assembled for the first time; and the United States Bill of Rights was drafted, all at Federal Hall on Wall Street.[94] In 1790, New York surpassed Philadelphia as the nation's largest city. At the end of that year, pursuant to the Residence Act, the national capital was moved to Philadelphia.[95][96]
19th century
Over the course of the nineteenth century, New York City's population grew from 60,000 to 3.43 million.[98] Under New York State's abolition act of 1799, children of slave mothers were to be eventually liberated but to be held in indentured servitude until their mid-to-late twenties.[99][100] Together with slaves freed by their masters after the Revolutionary War and escaped slaves, a significant free-Black population gradually developed in Manhattan. Under such influential United States founders as Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, the New York Manumission Society worked for abolition and established the African Free School to educate Black children.[101] It was not until 1827 that slavery was completely abolished in the state, and free Blacks struggled afterward with discrimination. New York interracial abolitionist activism continued; among its leaders were graduates of the African Free School. New York city's population jumped from 123,706 in 1820 to 312,710 by 1840, 16,000 of whom were Black.[102][103]
In the 19th century, the city was transformed by both commercial and residential development relating to its status as a national and international trading center, as well as by European immigration, respectively.[104] The city adopted the Commissioners' Plan of 1811, which expanded the city street grid to encompass almost all of Manhattan. The 1825 completion of the Erie Canal through central New York connected the Atlantic port to the agricultural markets and commodities of the North American interior via the Hudson River and the Great Lakes.[105] Local politics became dominated by Tammany Hall, a political machine supported by Irish and German immigrants.[106]
Several prominent American literary figures lived in New York during the 1830s and 1840s, including William Cullen Bryant, Washington Irving, Herman Melville, Rufus Wilmot Griswold, John Keese, Nathaniel Parker Willis, and Edgar Allan Poe. Public-minded members of the contemporaneous business elite lobbied for the establishment of Central Park, which in 1857 became the first landscaped park in an American city.
The Great Irish Famine brought a large influx of Irish immigrants; more than 200,000 were living in New York by 1860, upwards of a quarter of the city's population.[107] There was also extensive immigration from the German provinces, where revolutions had disrupted societies, and Germans comprised another 25% of New York's population by 1860.[108]
Democratic Party candidates were consistently elected to local office, increasing the city's ties to the South and its dominant party. In 1861, Mayor Fernando Wood called upon the aldermen to declare independence from Albany and the United States after the South seceded, but his proposal was not acted on.[101] Anger at new military conscription laws during the American Civil War (1861–1865), which spared wealthier men who could afford to pay a $300 (equivalent to $6,602 in 2021) commutation fee to hire a substitute,[109] led to the Draft Riots of 1863, whose most visible participants were ethnic Irish working class.[101]
The draft riots deteriorated into attacks on New York's elite, followed by attacks on Black New Yorkers and their property after fierce competition for a decade between Irish immigrants and Black people for work. Rioters burned the Colored Orphan Asylum to the ground, with more than 200 children escaping harm due to efforts of the New York Police Department, which was mainly made up of Irish immigrants.[108] At least 120 people were killed.[110] Eleven Black men were lynched over five days, and the riots forced hundreds of Blacks to flee the city for Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and New Jersey. The Black population in Manhattan fell below 10,000 by 1865, which it had last been in 1820. The White working class had established dominance.[108][110] Violence by longshoremen against Black men was especially fierce in the docks area.[108] It was one of the worst incidents of civil unrest in American history.[111]
In 1898, the City of New York was formed with the consolidation of Brooklyn (until then a separate city), the County of New York (which then included parts of the Bronx), the County of Richmond, and the western portion of the County of Queens.[112] The opening of the subway in 1904, first built as separate private systems, helped bind the new city together.[113] Throughout the first half of the 20th century, the city became a world center for industry, commerce,

Queen Camilla was given a new crown from a burger joint during her and King Charles's latest royal visit, with a body language expert claiming she struggled with the 'awkward' moment.
- King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla arrived in Colchester to meet with members of the public and celebrate the area's new city status on Tuesday.
- During the visit, Camilla was handed a paper crown from fast food chain Burger King, pulling a rather confused expression as she examined the gift from a young local.
- In other royal news, King Charles and Queen Camilla gazed into each other's eyes as they cut a cake during a romantic moment in Colchester.
During a walkabout in Colchester, Charles and Camilla met with royal fans young and old as they gathered in the hopes of meeting the King and Queen, who were visiting to mark the town becoming a city.
As the new monarch and his Queen Consort, who will be crowned during King Charles's coronation in May, made their way down the high street, they were met with gifts, smiles and chatter from those in the crowd.
Queen Camilla, who wrapped up in a regal bright white coat, was even handed a paper crown from fast food joint, Burger King, in a moment that a body language expert has hailed as 'awkward'.
As Camilla approached a group of young fans gathering, she was told she had a "last minute gift".
In the video shared by @_tomsteel on TikTok, Camilla can be seen taking the cardboard crown, looking down to inspect it and simply saying, "Burger King? Thank you very much," before walking on to meet more well-wishers.
Body language expert Judi James has analyzed the exchange, claiming that the new Queen Consort appears to struggle with handling slightly awkward or unexpected moments with the public.
"Queen Camilla’s signals of ongoing awkwardness are visible in this ‘moment’ when a fan gifts her a paper crown from a burger bar," Judi told the Express.
Adding that Camilla seems to mimic her husband's relaxed nature that he exudes when laughing and joking with the public, Judi also highlighted, "She does use the kind of 'point' gesture that Charles uses to imply a sense of fun and connection."
Judi added, "Camilla clearly looks rather thrown by the sight of the paper crown and unable to join in the laughter about it or add to the fun."
Admitting that a fast food crown is an unusual gift for Camilla, the behavior pro also pointed out that she struggled to handle the slightly strange interaction in a relaxed way, saying, "But she lacks the kind of easy social confidence that will help her cope with what she seems to see as odd behavior."
Queen Camilla's pop art 'wow' brooch intrigued fans on March 8, when Her Majesty hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the work of certain women on International Women's Day.
- The Queen hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, March 9, 2023.
- Her Majesty invited a selection of influential women from across the globe to celebrate International Women's Day at the palace.
- In other royal news, Princess Anne's red beret stands out from the crowd at racing event but we can't get over the winner's connection to her grandchild!
While at this important event at Buckingham Palace, the Queen wore a navy pinstriped short blazer that she paired with a matching calf-length skirt in the same style. The Queen looked fantastic in this matching skirt suit and paired the look with a pair of black suede knee-length boots.
This dark-toned outfit particularly made her bright brooch in gold and red pop on the Queen's lapel. The brooch was a pop art style shape with the letters 'WOW' emblazoned in gold on the front. While this may seem like a departure from the royal's typical brooch style, WOW is an acronym meaning 'Women of the World.' The Queen hosted this event in her capacity as President of the Women of the World Festival (WOW).

This inexpensive brooch was the perfect accessory for the Queen consort as she hosted this important event and chatted to influential women. The Queen was snapped chatting to Megan Barton Hanson, a former Love Island star, Sarah Lancashire, who is best known as Catherine Cawood on Happy Valley, and the Ukrainian Ambassador's wife, Inna Prystaiko.
Among the celebrities invited to the event, the Queen extended the invitation to entrepreneurs, entertainers, athletes, authors, journalists, and public servants as they gathered at this reception at the palace to celebrate to work of influential women from across a variety of different fields.
In addition to hosting this reception for influential women, the Queen also took the time to post about the ' remarkable women whom I have had the privilege of meeting over the past year'. This included advocate for the deaf community, and Strictly winner, Rose Ayling Ellis, and the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska.
Jennifer Aniston recently shared some wisdom on how she avoids injury and strain while working out.
If we know one thing about Jennifer Aniston and her flawless hair it's that she never fails to look amazing, regardless of her age. Fans of the Friends star have long been inquisitive about the actress' habits that keep her looking as fabulous and glowy as she does - and she's been more than gracious about sharing tips in the past, like the facial tool she uses for lifted and glowing skin.
Recently, she gave an interview with InStyle where she talked about the importance of listening to and taking care of your body - and that starts with a good night's sleep, she says.

"Sleep is extraordinary. It’s beautiful," Jennifer says. "But, boy, did I take it for granted when we were young. When you're younger, you kind of take it for granted. You think, ‘I can survive on three-to-five hours of sleep and I feel great,’ and then, all of a sudden, it just starts not to feel great and your performance isn't as up to par as it should be."
She's right, too - in fact, according to the CDC, 1 in 3 adult Americans don't get enough sleep.
"All of your body is getting all the work done that it put itself through during the day. You realize a lack of sleep leads to all sorts of health issues," she explains.
She reveals that a strict night regimen has become part of her daily habits that keep her looking and feeling well. In this nightly routine for good sleep hygiene, she incorporates epsom salt baths, sleep meditation, lavender essential oils, and most importantly, she ensures that she turns all screens off at least an hour before bed.
However, this nighttime routine doesn't just affect her sleep. She finds that, if she doesn't take that time in the evening to care for herself, she may not get adequate sleep, thus affecting other parts of her life - like a workout, for instance.

In the odds that she gets a night of inadequate sleep, she focuses on recovery the next day, rather than pushing herself beyond her limits. For example, she won't push herself too hard in a workout - if she does, she could potentially hurt herself, which obviously would throw a wrench in things.
"I don't push myself so hard [in a workout] because that will lead to an injury when your body and your brain aren't fully rested. I just try to do my best and just figure out everything possible that will ensure a good night's sleep," she says.
Emma Heming Willis on Wednesday shut down reports that Bruce Willis’ ex-wife Demi Moore had moved in with the couple following his dementia diagnosis.
"Let's nip this one in the bud. This is so dumb. Please stop," Heming, 44, wrote on her Instagram story. The debunked headline read: "Demi Moore 'Moved In' With Ex Bruce Willis & His Wife To Help Care For Him After Heartbreaking Dementia Diagnosis: Source."
The "Die Hard" actor has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), his family announced last month, which is a disorder that can affect behavior, personality, language and movement.
The diagnosis came months after the family revealed he was dealing with aphasia.

Tuesday, she posted a short video on Instagram, saying that she had heard claims she was using Willis’ diagnosis to get her "five minutes" of fame.
Brushing off the accusation, she said that was "great because it means that you’re listening" and said she would turn it into 10 minutes to "advocate for my husband" and raise awareness about FTD.
"And then I’m going to turn my grief and anger and sadness and do something good around something that feels less than. So, watch this space because I didn’t come to play," she added

In a separate post, she also asked photographers to leave her husband alone when he goes out.
"In the spirit of raising awareness around dementia … it's clear that there's still a lot of education that needs to be put forth, so this one is going out to the photographers and the video people that are trying to get those ‘exclusives’ of my husband out and about," she said in the video.
"Just keep your space," she requested. "I know this is your job, but maybe just keep your space. For the video people, please don't be yelling at my husband, asking me how he's doing, the ‘woo-hoo’-ing and the ‘yippy-ki-yays,' please don't do it, OK?"

The family made a joint statement announcing his diagnosis on Feb. 16 that said in part: "Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis. In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing."
It continued, "Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis."
Willis' statement was signed by his entire family, including wife Emma, ex-wife Moore and daughters Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn.
Moore and Willis divorced in 2000, and the actor married Heming in 2007. Moore and Willis have three daughters from their marriage: Rumer, 34, Scout, 31 and Tallulah, 28, and Emma and Bruce have two daughters: Mabel, 10 and Evelyn, 8.
When Emma and Willis renewed their vows for their 10-year wedding anniversary, the pair "wouldn't do it" without Demi there.

"She welcomed me into her family like I welcomed her into ours," Heming told Us Weekly. "Again, I have so much respect for her. I have so much respect for how Bruce and Demi worked through their divorce to be able to put their children first. I learned so much from that and grew so much from watching that. It was important for her to be there. She was at our first wedding. I loved having her there again. I wouldn’t do it without her."
Their blended family often spend time together, including over the holidays and are supporting each other in the wake of his diagnosis. They are also regularly pictured together on social media.
In the statement announcing Willis' diagnosis, they encouraged others facing FTD to "seek out the wealth of information and support available through AFTD" and encouraged others to continue advocating for research and awareness.
"Bruce has always found joy in life — and has helped everyone he knows to do the same. It has meant the world to see that sense of care echoed back to him and to all of us," the statement said. "We have been so moved by the love you have all shared for our dear husband, father, and friend during this difficult time. Your continued compassion, understanding, and respect will enable us to help Bruce live as full a life as possible."
Carol Burnett is about to celebrate her 90th birthday this year on April 26 and was recently celebrated by her famous friends, including Julie Andrews.
Andrews reunited with her long-time pal for the taping of NBC’s "Carol Burnett: 90 Years Of Laughter and Love," a two-hour special celebrating the comedy icon.
The event reunited the legends after they did three specials together back in the 1960s and 70s, "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall," "Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center" and "Julie & Carol: Together Again."
Other stars in attendance included Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Bob Mackie, who designed the costumes for "The Carol Burnett Show," Cher and many more.
BOB MACKIE REFLECTS ON WORKING WITH CAROL BURNETT, CREATING VERY RACY LOOK FOR CHER
Though the special serves as a retrospective of Burnett’s life and career, the soon-to-be 90-year-old has not slowed down her career once over the past seven decades.
She is not alone as a living legend still ruling Hollywood into her 90s either. Here is what other stars are up to as they enter their ninth, or in one case 10th, decade and why they continue to dominate Hollywood.
Born in 1933 in San Antonio, Burnett made a name for herself in comedy.
She became a breakout success in the 1959 production of "Once Upon A Mattress" before starring in her own sketch series, "The Carol Burnett Show" for 11 seasons.
"The Carol Burnett Show" was an incredible success, earning 25 Primetime Emmy Awards during its run, including three for Burnett herself.
After the series ended in 1978, Burnett transitioned to more film roles, most memorably Miss Hannigan in 1982’s "Annie."
She was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1985, was a 2016 Kennedy Center Honoree, and in 2019, the Golden Globes created the Carol Burnett Award for outstanding contributions to television on or off-screen.
CAROL BURNETT RECEIVES TOP US HUMOR PRIZE
The then 85-year-old was the first recipient of the award and in her speech reflected on her career and how things turned out as they were meant to be.
"I catch myself daydreaming about being young again and doing it all over, and then I bring myself up short when I realize how incredibly fortunate I was to be there at the right time," she shared. "Because what we did then, it couldn't be done today."
Though she has earned lifetime achievements and accolades, Burnett has continued a steady stream of work including appearances on "Mad About You," "Glee," and most recently AMC’s "Better Call Saul."
Burnett is also set to appear in the miniseries, "Mrs. American Pie" on Apple TV+, alongside Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney and Laura Dern.
Dick Van Dyke has always been a hard-working entertainer.
Born in West Plains, Missouri in 1925, Van Dyke first made a name for himself on television, playing Rob Petrie on the self-titled "Dick Van Dyke" show in the early 1960s. He also originated the role of Albert Peterson in "Bye Bye Birdie" on Broadway in 1961 and reprised the role on screen in 1963.
He may be best loved for his role as Bert the Chimney Sweep in "Mary Poppins."
From there, he appeared in other films like "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Dick Tracy" and the "Night at the Museum" movies. He also starred in the long-running series "Diagnosis: Murder."
CARL REINER, CREATOR OF 'THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW,' DEAD AT 98
Over the course of his career, Van Dyke has earned four Emmys, a Tony, and a Grammy, and was an honoree at the 2020 Kennedy Center Honors.
In 2018, he wowed audiences when he appeared in "Mary Poppins Returns," showcasing his still intact dancing skills as an elderly chairman of a bank. The actor was 93 at the time.
Van Dyke has continued to showcase his unstoppable energy.
Last month, he shocked audiences and the judges on FOX’s "The Masked Singer," when he was unmasked during the premiere episode.
The now 97-year-old was performing as the Gnome, bringing the crowd to its feet and bringing a tear to the eye of many, including judge Nicole Scherzinger.
Not long after the reveal, the icon spoke with Yahoo! Entertainment, and said "genes" play a role in his longevity, along with his wife, Arlene Silver.
"Having a beautiful young wife half my age to take care of me — that works," he joked.
DICK VAN DYKE, 97, SAYS ‘HAVING A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WIFE HALF MY AGE’ KEEPS HIM YOUNG
However, he did offer a practical secret to his vigor--exercise. "I advise everybody to do that, because that's what ages people — it's just a stiffening up and not exercising their muscles and their lungs," he said. "Exercise is the answer."
Van Dyke is not capping his career with the singing competition though. He is slated to appear in an upcoming film titled "Capture the Flag," about a group of vets competing for the privilege of raising the flag in their neighborhood each morning.
DICK VAN DYKE'S ADVICE TO YOUNG ACTORS
Born in Puerto Rico in 1931, Rita Moreno moved to New York with her mother in 1936 before eventually moving to Hollywood to begin her acting career.
After appearances in films like "Singin’ in the Rain" and "The King and I," the multi-talented Moreno scored her breakout role as Anita in the big screen adaptation of "West Side Story."
Her performance earned her an Oscar in the best supporting actress category and set her on the path to become one of the illustrious few to achieve EGOT status, which refers to performers and creators who earn an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Moreno was the third person to pick up all four awards, and the first Latina woman to do so.
She has also received a Kennedy Center Honor in 2015, a Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004 and a Peabody Award in 2019.
Her life and career were chronicled in a 2021 documentary for Netflix, aptly titled, "Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go For It."
Speaking about the documentary to People in 2021, Moreno said, "I'm still active and still working. I worry and stress a lot less now because I'm so grateful," adding, "I stop and smell the roses."
She also told the outlet, "I love to be amused and I love to amuse. I love to make people laugh," she says. "And you have to have a sense of humor about yourself or you're f---ed!"
That attitude seems to keep Moreno going beyond the awards and retrospectives, as her star continues to shine.
She appeared in the Oscar-nominated 2021 remake of "West Side Story," directed by Steven Spielberg in a new role created specifically for her. She also served as an executive producer on the film, providing fresh input on the Puerto Rican characters in the story.
This year, at 91 she has proven herself to still be a box office draw. Along with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Sally Field, she starred in "80 for Brady," a comedy about four older women who make a journey to see Tom Brady in the 2017 Super Bowl.
WHY '80 FOR BRADY' IS THE ULTIMATE NOSTALGIA MOVIE
Moreno said in an interview, "I think what it does that is most unusual is that it enlightens the audience about what it’s like to be an older person, an older woman. You just don’t usually see that."
Later this year, Moreno is also joining the "Fast and the Furious" franchise in "Fast X," playing grandmother to Vin Diesel, John Cena and Jordana Brewster’s characters.
She is also slated to be in a comedy for Netflix, "Family Leave," alongside Jennifer Garner.

Canadian-born William Shatner entered the halls of pop culture royalty with his role as Captain James T. Kirk on "Star Trek" in the 1960s, as well as the later film adaptations of the series.
After "Star Trek," Shatner starred in series like "T.J. Hooker" and hosted shows like "Rescue 911" and "The UnXplained." He also made appearances in movies like "Miss Congeniality" and made multiple cameos in shows like "The Big Bang Theory" and "Futurama," nodding to his sci-fi background.
His mid-career role on "The Practice" and its spin-off "Boston Legal" earned him two Emmy Awards.
In total, the actor has 250 credits to his name, along with hosting shows as himself and creating documentaries like "Get A Life!," which look at the "Star Trek" fandom.
He has also released 11 albums and even appeared on "The Masked Singer" in 2022.
The actor, born in 1931, has also been awarded a Life Career Award from The Saturn Awards, put on by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, and a NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest honor NASA awards to anyone who was not a government employee when the service was performed.
The NASA honor came several years before his historic 2021 journey into space aboard the Blue Origin spacecraft. Shatner was 90 at the time and the oldest person to make the journey into sub-orbital flight.

"Everything is a discovery," he said. "... What's interesting is to discover not only [things] about yourself, but about the world around you, there's always continuous discovery."
The now 91-year-old also has at least three projects in the works this year alone, including a new series titled "The Elevator."
Clint Eastwood has held his icon status for almost seven decades in Hollywood.
Born in 1930 in San Francisco, Eastwood became a staple of the Western genre first as Rowdy Yates on the TV series "Rawhide," before cementing his status as an icon with the "Man with No Name" trilogy of films. He later took on the role of Harry Callahan in the "Dirty Harry" films.
Eastwood also made a name for himself as a director, with films like "Play Misty for Me," "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Bronco Billy."
The "Every Which Way but Loose" director has been almost constantly working throughout his lifetime, often directing two movies a year, like "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Letters From Iwo Jima" in 2006, "Changeling" and "Gran Torino" in 2008, "Jersey Boys" and "American Sniper" in 2014, and most recently 2018’s "The 15:17 to Paris" and "The Mule."
Though his career never slowed, he did not earn his first Oscar nominations until 1992’s "Unforgiven," at age 62, in which he starred, directed and produced. "Unforgiven" took home best picture and best director, a feat he would repeat 12 years later with "Million Dollar Baby."
CLINT EASTWOOD, 90, GRATEFUL FOR HIS LARGE 'CLOSE' FAMILY, SAYS INSIDER
His latest project was 2021’s "Cry Macho," which he again starred, directed and produced. The then 91-year-old became the oldest person ever to act in and direct a film.
In an interview with The Los Angeles Times in 2021, Eastwood admitted he sometimes wonders about still working at his age, now 92.
"What the hell am I still working for in my 90s?" he said. "Are people going to start throwing tomatoes at you? I’ve gotten to the point where I wondered if that was enough, but not to the point where I decided it was. If you roll out a few turkeys, they’ll tell you soon enough."
Eastwood also said at the time he did not have any projects lined up, but said, "If something comes along where the story itself, the telling of it, is fun, I’m open to it."
If you name a classic sitcom, there is a chance Norman Lear was behind it.
The prolific producer and writer dominated the 1970s and 80s on television with shows like "All in the Family," "Sanford and Son," "The Jeffersons," "Good Times" and "Maude."
7 THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT 'ALL IN THE FAMILY'
He has also produced classic movies like "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "The Princess Bride."
Lear also oversaw the reboot of "One Day at a Time" on Netflix, which starred Moreno.
Over his career, Lear has earned six Emmys and has been inducted into the Emmy Hall of Fame in 1984.
Lear was also a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2017, won a lifetime achievement award from the Peabodys in 1977, and earned the National Medal of Arts from President Clinton in 1999.
Even with an already-storied career lasting decades, Lear, who turned 100 last year, shows zero signs of stopping.
"I’ve never chosen anything to do that I didn’t wish to do," he told People in 2022. "My awards and accolades mean a great deal to me, but they don’t mean as much as the drive to the studio today. I still explode with joy, excitement, interest and utter delight every time."
Lear currently has 23 projects in development with Brent Miller, his business partner and president of his production company, Act III. They include a reboot of "Who’s the Boss?" and "Good Times," among others.
"Bringing joy to people is what it’s all about," Lear told the outlet. "Laughter and joy add time to one’s life."
Third time’s a charm, we hope? Jennifer Lopez, or J.Lo, and Ben Affleck have just backed out of buying yet another house together, TMZ reports. The Hollywood heavyweights have allegedly pulled out of purchasing the newly-built $34.5 million transitional style house they entered into escrow on last month.
If true, this would be the second property that Bennifer has entered into together but have had a change of heart on, the first being a massive 20,000-square-foot Bel Air estate they pulled the brakes on in March of 2023.
TMZ also reports that the newlyweds have now gone into escrow on another home, but it is unclear where. According to reports, the couple toured two estates last week, one of which was a $64 million dollar Pacific Palisades property owned by tech and finance czar, Gregory Milken.
Built in 2005, the Milken estate has a facade with a mix of classic elements found in homes in the Northeast, and shingle style coastal homes. The property comes with a 13,000-square-foot main house and a 3,000-square-foot guest cottage outfitted with two bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a gym. With six bedrooms and five bathrooms, the main house will definitely be large enough to hold the Lopez-Affleck brood.
After a broken engagement twenty years ago, Lopez and Affleck tied the knot last August in a lavish ceremony at Affleck’s Georgia estate. In preparation for their big purchase together, Affleck sold the Pacific Palisades home he bought in 2018 for $28.5 million back in October, and Lopez recently placed her luxurious French-style Bel Air mansion on the market for $42.5 million. Here’s hoping the two have finally found their forever home. In the meantime, they have been renting out the Beverly Hills home of Australian billionaire James Packer, since the summer of 2022.
APortuguese vacation should be on any family’s European must-visit list. It’s a beautiful country, with delicious food, gorgeous sites, and friendly people. With three international airports located on mainland Portugal, it’s fairly easy to access.
Although it is a small country, there are many great towns, small villages, and cities to see while you are there. So, you’ll need to do a little research in advance to figure out which are the best towns in Portugal to visit during your vacation.
Disclosure: My first visit to Portugal was complimentary as part of a media trip with Martinhal Hotels, and I paid full price for my second trip. This post contains affiliate links and a purchase through one of these may result in a commission paid to us at no additional cost to you. All opinions are my own.
Best Towns in Portugal To Visit on Vacation
Lisbon
You’ll probably want to include the Portuguese capital city of Lisbon in your vacation plans. It’s the largest city in Portugal and one of the major cities in Europe. Lisbon also has the largest of the international airports in the country, so you’ll typically be able to get the best flights to and from there. There’s so much to see and do in Lisbon, and there are also plenty of day trips from Lisbon if you decide to base your vacation there.
While you are there, it’s a good idea to book a guided tour so you can get an overview of the city and learn more about its rich history. There are lots of options, including tuk-tuk and tram tours. We also enjoyed a yacht tour of the Lisbon Tagus River waterfront.
We’ve stayed in several hotels in Lisbon, and have loved them. There are lots of options, from smaller, more boutique hotels to international chains. Here are three we’d recommend:
Martinhal Lisbon Chiado Luxury Hotel and Apartments – I had the opportunity to tour this hotel before it opened, several years ago. It’s a family-friendly hotel in the trendy Chiado neighborhood and offers luxury apartments that are specifically designed for families.
The Olissippo Lapa Palace Hotel – we stayed here on our last night in Portugal, and I wish we had more time there. The home of a former palace, this hilltop hotel offers some rooms with views of the Tagus River. It also has a beautiful lagoon-style pool which is a surprising oasis for a city hotel.
Tivoli Avenida Liberdade – we spent three nights at this city hotel, located on a luxurious and swanky street in downtown Lisbon. It offers several restaurants and bars, including a trendy rooftop bar with beautiful night views of the city.
Porto
We started our most recent Portuguese vacation in the gorgeous, historic city of Porto, located in Northern Portugal. There is an international airport in Porto, and we were able to fly from Boston to Porto with a layover at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal.
Porto offers so much to do, and is a beautiful city. We spent four nights there, and I feel like we could have spent our entire vacation there. It’s got a hip, trendy vibe, with lots of boutiques and cafes, among the historic attractions and narrow, cobblestone streets.
During our trip to Porto, we stayed at the Intercontinental Porto. It’s a modern hotel located in a historic building – the former Palacio das Cardosas. From there, we were able to take a short walk to most of the historic attractions, including the Douro River waterfront. For the places we weren’t able to walk to, we found Uber easy to use in town. If you decide to drive, keep in mind that there are some very hilly, narrow streets that can be a challenge to navigate.
One of the highlights of our trip was the Porto Bridge Climb, a relatively mild adventure that takes place on the Arrábida Bridge. Although you’ll be harnessed, there are stairs to climb.
Gaia
Across the Douro River from Porto is the town of Gaia. Known for its wine and port cellars, Gaia is a great place to visit for the day when you are staying in Porto. There are many different restaurants and wine cellar tours (along with wine tasting) – we recommend visiting at least one!
Want to take in some gorgeous views of the Douro River and of Porto? The Gaia Cable Car runs year-round, is about a 5-minute ride, and offers aerial views of the area. One-way or round-trip tickets are available.
Douro Valley
Located about an hour and a half from the Porto city center is the Douro Valley. The wine country region of Portugal is absolutely stunning, with green rolling hills and a winding river. During our visit, we kayaked along the Douro River, and then visited Quinta da Pacheca, a vineyard where guests can stay in a converted wine barrel.
Be sure to try port wine, which the region is famous for. In fact, wineries are unable to use the “port” label if the wine doesn’t come from the Douro region.
Sintra
Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is both a town and a municipality. While it’s most popular for the bright and colorful Pena Palace, there’s so much more to do and see in Sintra. Some of the other attractions include the Castle of the Moors (Moorish Castle), the Sintra National Palace, and Quinta da Regaleira (located near the city center, with Knights Templar symbols).
While visiting Sintra is definitely possible on a day trip, I would recommend arriving early. It’s one of the most popular destinations, especially in the summer months. Pena Palace especially gets busy throughout the day. Don’t miss visiting the small town of Sintra, a beautiful historic town with shops, cafes, and more to explore.
Cascais
The very first place I visited in Portugal is Cascais. It’s a lovely resort town and former fishing village, with beautiful beaches, shops, resorts, outdoor cafes, and more. It’s a quick distance from Lisbon, so it’s an easy day trip. Or, there are plenty of luxurious resorts where you can stay.
Cascais is located on the Portuguese Riviera, which offers some of the most beautiful beaches outside of southern Portugal.
Évora
The historic city of Evora, located southwest of Lisbon in the center of Portugal, offers some popular attractions. These include the Roman Temple of Évora, located in the historic center of the city, in addition to the Chapel of Bones (a 16th-century temple with an interior lined with skulls and bones). Evora is about halfway between Lisbon and the Spanish border.
Sagres
The town of Sagres is located in the most southwestern point of Europe, in the Algarve region of Portugal. It is home to several beautiful beaches, with an active surf community. During my first trip to Portugal, I stayed at the Martinhal Sagres Family Beach Resort, a large, luxurious resort made especially for families that is the perfect place for a family to relax.
It can be a little challenging to get to the Algarve if you fly into Lisbon. Options include rental cars (for a road trip from Lisbon – about 3 hours), public transportation (trains), or private transportation. There is also an international airport in Faro, which is east of Sagres but still in the Algarve region. However, I’d recommend visiting during your trip to Portugal because it has some of the best beaches in the area.
Carvoeiro
During our most recent visit, we stayed in Carvoeiro in the Algarve. This area offers beaches, resorts, shops, and restaurants, and is famous for the Carvoeiro Caves. I’d definitely recommend going on an Algarve cave tour during your time in the area – it’s such a unique experience and a fun thing to see.
During our trip, we stayed at a beautiful, clifftop resort, right in Carvoeiro. The Tivoli Carvoeiro is a luxury resort offering a spa, restaurants, an outdoor pool, and gorgeous views of the natural beauty of the ocean and cliffs.
Ponta Delgada
Ponta Delgada is located on the archipelago of the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean (on São Miguel Island) and is the capital city of the Azores region. The Azores can be one of the easiest European vacations for families, due to their proximity to the East Coast of the US. It’s a relatively short flight.
Although I haven’t been to the Azores (except for a flight layover), they are definitely on my list. These beautiful islands are known for their gorgeous hydrangeas, and also offer many things to see and do.

A massive great white shark weighing about 1,200 pounds was tracked off the coast of Florida this week. The shark, named Maple by OSEARCH, which tracks sharks, is 11 feet and 7 inches.
The great white was spotted about 43 miles off the coast of St. George's island on Monday, OSEARCH wrote on Facebook. Her arrival off the coast coincides with the time spring breakers will flock to the sunshine state.
Maple has been in the Gulf of Mexico for a few weeks but last year traveled up and down the East Coast, after first being tagged in Canada in 2021, OSEARCH tracking data shows. The organization first tagged Maple two years ago, and has continued to monitor her along with dozens of other sharks they have tagged.
She was named after the maple leaf, the emblem on Canada's flag. Maple has a wound on her left side, and researchers believe it was caused by a larger white shark that was trying to show its dominance with a non-fatal bite.
Another great white, named Tancook by OSEARCH, has also been spotted near the northern part of the state in the Atlantic. The 715 lb. male was spotted off the coast of Jacksonville on Tuesday.
CBS News has reached out to OSEARCH for more information and is awaiting response.
Last March, a 12-foot great white was tracked off the coast of Naples after being spotted in the Florida Keys, OSEARCH said, according to CBS Miami.
Female great whites are bigger than males – and can grow up to 16 feet long, compared to males' 13 feet. Some great whites, however, can reach up to 20 feet, according to the Smithsonian.
With an uptick in travel to the state, spring may seem like an inopportune time for these sharks to visit Florida, but sharks typically move toward the shore in the spring and summer, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). They reach their peak in Florida between April and October.
"It's very important for people who visit Florida waters to be aware of their surroundings, understand the relative risks, and be educated on various shark issues such as behavior, biology and fisheries," said Brent Winner, a scientist for the FWC.
While sharks may be more prevalent near Florida beaches as the weather warms up, FWC says humans are actually more dangerous to sharks: fisheries kill about 100 million sharks a year, while less than 10 humans are killed by sharks annually.
FWC says humans are actually 30 times more likely to be struck by lightning than to be bitten by a shark, and 99% of Florida shark attacks are not fatal.
Great whites not only live on the East Coast of the U.S., but also in the Pacific – from Alaska to California, Hawaii, and Mexico, according to NOAA.
Last month, a video of sharks thrashing in the ocean as they fed on fish went viral. The video, captured by Dillon May off the coast of Venice, Louisiana, showed the hungry sharks aggressively eating a bait pod near a fishing boat.

Julia Fox’s dad and brother were reportedly arrested at their Manhattan apartment on Wednesday following a home raid where cops found evidence of narcotics manufacturing and a handful of ghost guns.
Police raided the home of Christopher and Thomas Fox as part of an investigation into privately made firearms after being tipped off. But they ended up discovering that the pair, who’ve been taken into custody with their charges still pending, were likewise alleged to be in possession of unidentified pills, pressure cookers, fentanyl, chloroform, and a list of materials commonly used to create explosives.
During the raid, The New York Post claims that cops also found several high-end wine bottles, a pill press, 3D printers, propane, and formaldehyde, which is a strong-smelling flammable chemical that is normally found in glues, disinfectants, automobile parts, and laboratories for the preservation of animal specimens.
News of their arrest will probably come as a shock to the model who is understood to have had no knowledge about her family’s alleged crimes.
In a statement released by an NYPD spokesperson, they said, “At this time, the matter is believed to be contained, with no apparent nexus to terrorism. The NYPD will continue to fight relentlessly against illegal guns – against both the steady proliferation of traditionally-manufactured firearms and the increasingly prevalent numbers of illegal, untraceable but fully functioning weapons known as ghost guns.”
Their arrest comes just four years after Fox gave an interview to High Snobiety, where she referred to her brother as being “like a mad scientist recluse.”
Fox, who was born in Milan, Italy to an Italian mother and American dad, spoke about her upbringing, how her mother decided not to relocate to the U.S. and opened up on the relationship she shares with her two brothers, one of whom is now said to be getting quizzed by cops.
“The 15-year-old lives in Italy with my mom, but the older one grew up with me in New York,” she told the publication in 2019. “He still lives here, but he’s not really around. He’s like a mad scientist recluse. He builds 3D printers for fun.”
Though she spent her early years of life in Italy, Fox later relocated to New York with her father who resided on the Upper East Side. But moving to the Big Apple was far from exciting for the 33-year-old given that her family did not come from a lot of money and were actually homeless at one point. “I actually have lived in almost every single neighborhood – Harlem, Chelsea, everywhere. I moved Downtown when I was 17 and I haven’t left,” she said.
Investigators were reportedly made aware of the ghost guns and drug-making materials after being tipped off following a series of “suspicious” purchases that were made to the address, with neighbors noticing people in Hazmat suits going in and out of the property.

Similar to how it is within the single digits, nine represents endings in numerology. A new cycle of life may be on its way if you're seeing 999 in your daily life.
These repeating number sequences, known as angel numbers, are used as guides for deeper spiritual exploration. From zero to nine, each numeral has its own significance.
In a conversation with Elizabeth Summers, esoteric numerologer, USA TODAY dives deeper into the number nine and its angel number meaning, including how it can impact your relationships and careers.
Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.
What are angel numbers? Beginner's guide to angel numbers and what they (could) mean.
What does 999 mean?
The angel number 999 is associated with completion. In this sense, seeing 999 means things in your current situation are coming to an end in order for new opportunities to present themselves.
"I always use the phrase 'God's closing doors, but opening windows,' and that is the number nine," said Summers.
Jobs may come to an end, relationships and friends may fizzle out but this all happens to bring on bigger and better possibilities. There is also a creative and entertaining energy with the number nine, said Summers.
This angel number signals to trust the process of how your life is shaping out, what is meant to be will be, and don't get caught up in the drama.
What does 000 mean? Angel number meaning and symbolism for work, relationships and more
What does 111 mean? Why you keep seeing it and how it will help you manifest your power.
Relationships
If you're seeing 999, old loves from this lifetime or another may make reappearances. While you may pick up where you left off and it feels passionate, the romance is ill-fated. "It does not last because it's the completion," said Summers.
Passion is a buzzword for this angel number and as a result, relationships can become very dramatic. Try to remain emotionally neutral and detached, said Summers.
Be patient with yourself and life. Maybe that person is not the love of your life after all, and someone new and exciting is coming your way.
"You have to stay calm, relax and allow (the guides) to finish it up for you to work through," said Summers.
What is your zodiac sign? Horoscopes, astrology, and what the stars says about you
Career
Similarly, within your career, the angel number 999 is about accepting the outcome, whatever it may be, said Summers.
Maybe you decide to take a new job, meaning you have to rearrange your daily routine. Or you are made to transfer offices, meaning you have to meet a new set of coworkers and say goodbye to your old ones.
It may seem like a rocky transition, but this old cycle has come to an end for a reason.
"Take your time as you move into it," said Summers. "It's kind of a wiggle wobble in the ending."
What does 222 mean? Angel number meaning and symbolism in your life, love and career.
What does 333 mean? Get to know the angel number that will help you get unstuck.
Strengths
The angel number 999 is associated with the hermit card in tarot, which also relates to completeness. This card represents the understanding and development of personal consciousness and calls to search for the next goal on your spiritual journey.
The number nine is about experiences and allowing them to lead you your highest good and greatest joy.
While it may be hard to trust the path at hand, 999 reminds us to be compassionate and open-hearted to all possibilities.
"Just go with the flow," said Summers.
'Phoenix energy': 444 angel number meaning and its role in your life
A change is coming. What angel number 555 means for your relationships and work life.
Weaknesses
Even though things may not be going how you want them to or planned them to, do not resist or rebel, said Summers. Stubbornness can come about with the appearance of 999.
It is key to practice non-resistance, having faith in the nine energy. "Easy way or hard way, what's going to end is going to end whether you like it or not," said Summers.
It may be time to consider how you acted, what you gained or what didn't serve you in the past. Take each situation on your journey as a learning experience, as 999 teaches us to reflect and mature.
"Once we have that humility and trust and faith, life only gets better," said Summers.
What does 777 mean? This is one angel number that means it might be time to slow down.
What does 888 mean? Its angel number meaning in relationships, career and life.
'Vanderpump Rules' cheating scandal: Tom Sandoval, Raquel Leviss apologize to Ariana Madix
"Vanderpump Rules" stars Tom Sandoval and co-star Raquel Leviss have spoken out and apologized to Ariana Madix amid the alleged cheating scandal surrounding the trio.
Sandoval first took to Instagram Saturday to ask fans to redirect their "anger and disappointment" away from his co-star and business partner Tom Schwartz after reports alleging that he cheated on Madix with Leviss surfaced Friday.
People magazine, E! News and TMZ reported the couple broke up following Sandoval’s alleged affair with Leviss. Sandoval and Madix had been together for 9 years, according to E! News.
Sandoval issued another statement on Tuesday addressing Madix by name, and on Wednesday, Leviss followed suit.
Here’s what we know.
What has Tom Sandoval said about cheating scandal with Ariana Madix, Raquel Leviss?
Sandoval first addressed his rumored infidelity with Leviss on Saturday in an Instagram post.
"Please leave Schwartz, my friends and family out of this situation… Schwartz specifically only found out about this very recently, and most definitely did not condone my actions," Sandoval wrote, alluding to the cheating scandal. "This was a very personal thing."
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Sandoval, Madix and Leviss for comment.
The Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras singer founded Schwartz & Sandy’s, a cocktail lounge and restaurant in Los Angeles, with Schwartz in 2021. Sandoval and Schwartz also co-founded TomTom Restaurant & Bar in West Hollywood with fellow co-star Lisa Vanderpump.
"Please direct (your) anger towards me and not them. They did nothing wrong," he added. "I will be taking a step back (and) taking a hiatus out of respect for my employees (and) partners. I need some time to address everything else. Sorry for everything."
On Tuesday, Sandoval directly addressed Madix by name in another lengthy Instagram statement.
"Most of all, I want to apologize to Ariana. I made mistakes, I was selfish, and made reckless decisions that hurt somebody I love," he wrote. "No one deserves to feel that pain so traumatically and publicly."
He continued: "I can only imagine how devastating this has been for Ariana and everyone around us … My biggest regret is that I dishonored Ariana. … My love for Ariana was stronger than any camera could ever have captured... I owed Ariana better."
Is Megan Fox showing us how to soft launch a breakup? Maybe. Here's what we learned.
What has Raquel Leviss said about Ariana Madix?
Leviss shared a statement on Instagram Wednesday apologizing for her "actions and my choices to Ariana, my friends and the fans so invested in our relationships."
She wrote there was "no excuse" for her actions and that she is "not a victim and must own my actions. I deeply regret hurting Ariana."
Leviss also shared she was reflecting on her choices, speaking to a counselor, and learning more about herself and "patterns of codependency and addiction to being and feeling loved."
Hours later, she followed up with another statement declaring her "sincere" feelings for Sandoval, doubling down on her need for healing.
"Besides the indefensible circumstances surrounding our relationship, my feelings for Tom have always been sincere and born out of a loving friendship," she wrote. "I need to take care of my health, work on self growth, and take time to be ok with being alone."
She added: "I care for Tom and don't want to label anything or predict what lies ahead."
Tom Sandoval's restaurant Schwartz & Sandy's weighs in on cheating scandal
The official Instagram page for Schwartz & Sandy’s addressed "the outpouring of outrage that has been directed towards our business" in the wake of Sandoval's alleged cheating scandal, asking fans to reconsider the "negative comments" they post online.
"Those of us who are not famous have dedicated our time, hearts and money to make this restaurant a reality," the restaurant wrote Saturday. "We too are disappointed by the current situation, as Ariana has always been a good friend and a great supporter of the restaurant. We appreciate that you may feel a certain way, but please understand that the livelihoods of others also depend on this business."
"Our staff, from the waitresses and bartenders to the cooks and dishwashers, all have had nothing to do with this unfortunate situation," the restaurant continued. "Our goal has always been to create a place where our community can come and enjoy a fun atmosphere with good food and friendly service, and we intend to continue to focus on that endeavor."

During Monday's episode of his "Radio Andy" show, "Vanderpump Rules" host Andy Cohen confirmed that Sandoval's cheating scandal will be featured on the show's current season.
"You may have heard rumors that the cameras were up over the weekend," Cohen said. "The cameras have been up on everyone, getting reactions and filming, so you will see this play out in a sense (on) this season of 'Vanderpump Rules' before the reunion."
Cohen also took a moment to remind listeners of the humanity beneath the headline-grabbing drama.
"These are real people," Cohen said. "This is a real relationship, and so you do have to keep that in mind."

Florence Pugh and ex Zach Braff showed a unified front at the premiere of "A Good Person" Wednesday.
Pugh, 27, is a producer and stars as the lead Allison in the Braff-written and directed film about a young woman whose life is turned upside down after being in a fatal accident that kills two members of her fiancé’s family. The film is loosely inspired by Amanda Kloots's grieving process after her husband Nick Cordero was diagnosed with COVID-19 and died from complications in 2020.
Pugh and Braff's red carpet appearance was the first time the now-exes have done a public appearance together.
Despite their split in 2022, the couple was all smiles on the red carpet. Braff, 47, loosely kept his arm overlapping Pugh while they posed together.
Chris Pine (finally) sets record straight on 'Don't Worry Darling' co-star Harry Styles spit rumors
The former pair ended their relationship early last year — but they kept it quiet because of the barrage of media attention, the actress revealed in a new interview.
"We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on," Pugh told Harper's Bazaar in a cover story published in December. "We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together. So we’ve done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it."
She also slammed the paparazzi and "gossip channels" for encouraging the public to share "private moments of famous people walking down the street."
"I think it’s incredibly wrong," she said, adding that just because people are in the public eye, doesn't mean "every aspect of their life should be watched and written about."
"We haven't signed up for a reality TV show," she said.
'Don't Worry Darling' survives drama, harsh reviews, tops box office with $19.2M
The pair had been linked with each other since 2019. While the couple never went red carpet official, Pugh has fiercely defended their romance amid a 20-year age gap.
The "Don't Worry Darling" actress touched on the nuance of age-gap relationships in Hollywood in a Vogue cover story, published in January.
"We weren’t in anyone’s faces. It was just that people didn’t like it," she said. "They imagined me with someone younger and someone in blockbusters."
Pugh added: "I think young relationships in Hollywood are so easily twisted because they add to the gossip sites. It’s exciting to watch. And I think I was in a relationship that didn’t do any of that."

Kourtney Kardashian's vitamin supplement brand, Lemme, recently rolled out a line of aesthetically-pleasing gummy vitamins promoted as a way to boost vaginal health; 60 lavender-colored gummies for $30 a bottle with a tongue-in-cheek name: Purr.
Not only have medical experts questioned the effectiveness of these oral vitamins, many argue that the product as a whole perpetuates problematic messaging that women's bodies need to be fixed.
"The best case scenario is that ... they're basically like taking candy," says Dr. Mare Mbaye, a New York-based OB/GYN. At worst, experts say, they could trigger vaginal issues. And more, they contribute to the myth that women should be self-conscious about the natural state of their bodies.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Lemme for comment.
Do Kourtney Kardashian's Lemme Purr vaginal health gummies work?
The Purr vitamins are marketed as "clinically-studied SNZ 1969™ probiotics specifically target vaginal health and pH levels to support freshness and odor," with "added Vitamin C for antioxidant benefits and real Pineapple extract." Doctors have a few issues with that.
First: Clinically-studied can mean a wide range of things, Mbaye says, noting companies often say their products were studied, but that study could have been done internally, without bias and without enough of a represented group to make an accurate claim about effectiveness.
Probiotics are a hot topic in wellness culture right now, but Mbaye notes that there isn't much evidence to suggest they make a difference for the average healthy person. And for those sensitive to certain ingredients, this product could affect their vaginal bacteria and "make them more prone to infections or other side effects," Mbaye adds.
Plus a product that helps balance probiotics and pH levels is mostly unnecessary, experts add. A vagina, for most people, takes care of this on its own. Vulvas can also be washed with mild soap and water to promote regulated levels, adds Dr. Laura Purdy, Chief Medical Officer of sexual and reproductive telehealth company Wisp.
What message is this sending?
Capitalism is at least partly to blame here, experts note. The Kardashian-Jenner family has built an empire around identifying body insecurities and offering solutions that can seemingly only be solved with products they sell.
"It's frustrating because it's basically taking advantage of young people's insecurities and this patriarchal idea that the vagina needs to smell like flowers or smell like fruit to be appealing to somebody else," Mbaye says. "You don't see this happening with penises. We're not trying to make penises smell a certain way."
Anyone considering purchasing a product to impact their vagina in some way should first determine if they think there's a legitimate issue. If the answer is yes, experts say consulting a medical provider is the best step to take.
"It’s important to dismantle the notion that vaginas should have an overwhelmingly good smell – they’re a part of the body and as such, can have a variety of scents, all of which can be healthy, which is what matters most," Purdy says.
Mbaye adds: "I wouldn't fall for these gimmicks that make you feel like something is wrong with you, because these aren't going to improve your vaginal health enough to prevent or treat any actual vaginal issues that you may have."

The following contains spoilers for The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #6, on sale now from DC Comics.
Despite all the horrible things the Joker has done, especially after taking his crimes outside of Gotham, his actions have faced little to no consequences, except for some overt rejection. The ending to The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #6 (by Matthew Rosenberg, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Arif Prianto, and Tom Napolitano) rectified this by having the Clown Prince of Crime cross paths with one of DC's most lethal heroes: Manhunter (Kate Spencer). In doing so, the story has also provided Manhunter with the chance to confront a character who epitomizes the problem that launched her heroic career.
Manhunter wasn't always a hero, but her path was motivated by her anger towards how criminals who should be punished kept escaping justice because of a flawed legal system. As such, she became Manhunter to deliver the justice she thought they deserved. The Joker represents everything she hates, and he will likely need to use every trick in his book to evade her.

The Origin of DC's Manhunter
When she first debuted in Manhunter #1 (by Marc Andreyko and Jesus Saiz), Kate Spencer was a district attorney but grew increasingly disillusioned with the justice system as criminal after criminal managed to evade a just punishment, either because they tricked the system to avoid proper sentencing or they simply escaped. Things came to a head when Copperhead, who was guilty of multiple murders and cannibalism, managed to avoid the death penalty and broke out after killing two guards.
Fed up, Kate donned a suit, hunted Copperhead down, and killed him. Since then, Manhunter has operated as a lethal hero, willing to bring violent justice to those who deserve it, and the Joker seems to be next. Considering that he has now found his way into her territory, and incited a citywide riot, Joker's time on Earth may very well be up as the Manhunter seeks to remedy what, in her eyes, should have been taken care of years ago.

DC's Manhunter Has a Lethal Way of Dispensing Justice
There is no sugarcoating the Joker's crimes. He has killed hundreds, if not thousands, and a good number of those deaths were horrific. Even survivors don't escape unscathed. Adding to this, he is constantly in and out of Arkham Asylum always able to break out. He is everything that Manhunter sought to fight -- a monster who the justice system failed to properly deal with. It's honestly a bigger mystery why she hasn't gone after him sooner. The answer to that might very well lie with where the Joker was operating from -- Gotham City.
Perhaps Manhunter respected Batman enough to leave the Joker for him to deal with, hoping that the Dark Knight would be able to handle him. Maybe she didn't want to incur Batman's wrath by murdering him. While he could understand her reasons, he would never accept them. As much as the Joker deserves to be punished, he is not worth getting on Batman's bad side. However, this all went out the window the moment the Joker attacked Los Angeles. This is the place she calls home, where her family lives, everything she cares about most is based in this city, and the Joker set it on fire. Killing him here and now isn't about fulfilling her personal mission, it's about protecting what matters most to her.
